The Giallorossi midfield general has been in top form in the European competition, and has excelled in every role handed out to him by coach Cesare Prandelli.

After Barzagli’s recovery, he was deployed in the centre of the midfield, his preferred role, where he patrolled the midfield with authority and determination. There have been question marks surrounding the next role of De Rossi
in the Italian starting line-up for the quarter-finals, but there is certainty that he will feature in the side.
While assessing the relative shortage of fans travelling to support the Italian side, the midfielder reflected that the economic downturn in the country made it difficult for many to be able to financially manage such a trip. However,
he stated that it did not make a big difference as at the end of the day it will be a battle fought between 11 players on each side. He further went on to state:
“The problem is that Italy is going through a difficult time right now and not many can afford such a long journey. The English fans always travel en masse to follow their team, but whatever the ratio of supporters in the stadium,
it’ll be 11 against 11 on the pitch.”
