The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 midfielder has told his Nazionale team-mates not to give into complacency and learn from their past experiences
in tackling the European Championships.
Italy are involved in a very tricky group, which involves the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 and the reigning World and European Champions,
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011. Italy have not performed exceedingly well in their recent matches at international tournaments, and De Rossi has urged his team to keep those disasters in mind and let them act as a motivation to rectify their faults of the past tournaments.
The Nazionale midfield player was giving an interview to the UEFA website and he stated that they should first pass through the group stages before
talks of excelling in the tournament are to begin.
During his interview, he was quoted to have said:
“It’s impossible to make plans, especially as at the last World Cup we were talking about plans and nobody ever considered the idea we wouldn’t
get through the group phase. We have to take it one step at a time. To consider these Euros as substantially positive, I think we need to reach at least the semi-final. Many things can alter a result there and change the game...”
The Giallorossi vice captain stated that there was a need to lower their heads and put in the hard work required to tackle the tough opposition
they will be facing in Group C, as there were no easy matches to contend with. However, he was mindful to acknowledge that the players had developed their abilities from their ordeal in the last World Cup.
He was convinced that his team-mates had grown in stature and toughened their mentality since the last time they played in an international tournament.
He commented:
“Italy have changed a great deal since the tournament in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. Above all, the players are more experienced and grew over two years in
qualifying, which made http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 more mature and aware of their abilities.”
The Euro 2012 group stages start on the 8th of June, but Italy will not be in action until Sunday, when they face off the reigning
European Champions, Spain.
