Daniele Paoli Jesus dominates Women’s 100m butterfly semi-finals: Day two – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Daniele Paoli Jesus of ECP/SABESP dominated the semi-finals of Women’s 100m butterfly event on the subsequent day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 31, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Paoli Jesus presented her astonishing efforts in the two-lap butterfly discipline to conquer the top qualification spot in the semi-finals. With her gruelling efforts, Paoli Jesus was only able to edge out her closest competitor, Daynara Ferreira Paula on
the finishing wall, by posting a finest time of 1 minute and 00.85 seconds. She was nearly four seconds slower than the Sarah Sjostrom’s world record of 56.06 seconds, made by Sjostrom at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Nevertheless, the gold medallist was trailed by Pereira Paula of FIAT/MINAS, who was just 0.05 seconds slower than her rival on the finishing wall and submitted a second fastest time of 1 minute and 00.90 seconds. Similarly, the second fastest swimmer managed
a lead of 0.18 seconds to out-touch her strongest rival and team-member, Fabiola Pulga Molina, who entered the final round with a third fastest qualification time of 1 minute and 01.08 seconds.
The interesting part of the semi-final was that the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medallist, Inge Dekker of FIAT/MINAS/MG, acquired fourth fastest spot of the swim, by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.57 seconds. Dekker was a part of Netherlands’ 4*100m freestyle
relay team, which won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.
Dekker was trailed by Daiene Marcal Dias of FFC/RJ, who was just 0.06 seconds slower than her and appeared on the wall, with a timing of 1 minute and 01.63 seconds.
Similarly, the arena sighted an exhausting effort of Dandara Mendes Antonio of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed only 0.25 seconds behind her former swimmer and posted a sixth fastest qualification time of 1 minute and 01.88 seconds. In the meantime, 21-year-old Antonio
maintained a lead of 0.48 seconds over her subsequent competitor, Carolina B Athayde of CRF/RJ, who completed her swim in a seventh fastest qualification time of 1 minute and 02.36 seconds.
Likewise, Athayde acquired eight fastest spot of the event by clocking a 0.72 seconds slower time of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds for the final round.
The arena was amazed with the fastest qualifying efforts of top-eight finalists, while they could not wait to see what happens in the final round of the 100m butterfly, as the event includes world famous, Dekker. Furthermore, these qualifying swimmers will
compete with each other in the final round to secure a podium finish.
