Danielle Allan of Pompton Lakes awarded Field Hockey Player of the Year
Pompton Lakes’ Danielle Allan who once had the least interest in field hockey has now become the sports Player of the Year. She is talented enough to have become one of the most dominant players in Passaic Country history. She
became outstanding when she completed a school-record of 56 goals and 11 assists which led Pompton Lakes to one of its most successful seasons.
Allan has achieved the title of “Field Hockey Player of the Year” in North Jersey for the second consecutive season.
"I know my statistics are pretty good, but I have always been much more interested in team goals," Allan said. "Our aim was the Triple Crown [league, County, state] and we did not quite make it, but I’m satisfied with our achievements
this season."
Pompton Lakes is the team at top as it went 20-2 in the final North Jersey Top 5 poll.
Playing marvelously, Pompton Lake won the Northeast Field Hockey League Division 1 for the fourth consecutive year and became victorious with North 1, Group 1 Crown in a row for the third year. Wayne Hills made Pompton Lakes efforts
useless when they handed them their first loss of the season, 3-2, in the Passaic County Tournament final.
"It’s still been a productive and rewarding four years," said Allan, who played on County championship teams her freshman and sophomore years.
"I’m happy with all that we accomplished and it’s been an extremely positive experience."
In her four year career, Allan led the Pompton Lakes 75-9-3 as she scored the school records of 144 goals and had 56 assists.
Eileen Allan, the Cardinals’ coach and mother of Danielle said that bigger the game the better Danielle played and she never lost hope and all the teammates followed her in this approach. She added that Allan plays with devotion
and puts all her efforts into every game she plays.
Allan earned a great name for herself when she broke the career goal-scoring record of Danielle Avenoso (88 goals) in the opening game of this season.
Her efforts and abilities paid off when she scored five goals twice in a game and four goals in a game six times.
Allan made a verbal commitment to Quinnipiac and said she has intentions to take physical therapy as a major at college.
"I’m looking forward to the next level," Allan said. "It will be a major challenge, but I just want to play as hard as I can and everything should hopefully work out fine."
