Danielle Kang finishes tied for third at Kingsmill Championship
Danielle Kang knew that the only thing that could help her shine at the Kingsmill Championship was resilience — and she apparently followed her own advice.
She shot an overall 270 in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event to finish tied for the third position along with French Karine Icher.
Kang was no longer nervous after she got off to a flying start at the opening round of Kingsmill Championship, held at Williamsburg, Virginia. She posted a decent 67 in the opening round.
The star golfer looked even more confident when she made a solid start in the second round. Having carded 64 on Friday, Kang solidified her position on the leaderboard.
The final round saw the young star shoot a 69 — something that helped Kang cling to her third position till the last minute. She kicked off the round on Sunday with a clear plan as she was determined not to surrender to her nerve.
Although the rising LPGA golfer faced a strong roster that had a deep pool of talent, her putts and swing were perfect enough to help her edge past most of the big names such as Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Na Yeon Choi, Natalie Gulbis, Brittany Lincicome of the United States and Cristie Kerr.
Commentators said that if Kang played a little better in the third round, she would have risen to an ever higher spot on the leaderboard.
Having posted a 70 in the third round, the young gun gave other players some room to improve their positions on the leaderboard.
“I had a, you know, just a solid round today. I made a lot of pars and it was playing a little more difficult than yesterday, there was wind and you know".
"But I had a lot of fun and there were so many cameras and people were out there supportive. Just a lot of fun. I just played pretty solid,” Kang shared her thoughts at the end of the third round.
She went on to say that she was pretty happy with the way she kicked off the tournament, as she posted an amazing score, but she realised she could have done much better in the last three rounds.
