Danielle Robinson stars as San Antonio Silver Stars down Tulsa Shock 78-67 – WNBA Recap
Coming into Wednesday night the San Antonio Silver Stars had lost three consecutive games but Danielle Robinson put an end to that dismal run as she poured in 12 points, five assists, and four steals in a 78-67 win over Tulsa Shock.
“I was just trying to be that spark,'' she said after the game. "This win is huge, especially on the road. We knew they would make a run, we just had to come back strong and sharp in the fourth quarter and we did.”
Shameka Christon led the scoring for San Antonio with 17 points and was provided equal support by Sophia Young who contributed with 16 points. Becky Hammon also had 11 points.
From the other side, Glory Johnson led the way with 18 points while Ivory Latta and Temeka Johnson chipped in with 17 and 10 points respectively.
Tulsa dug them-selves a hole as they started the game poorly and had to play from behind throughout the night.
"You can't just play 20 minutes in this league. For whatever reason, we came out flat, with low energy and let them do whatever they wanted in the first half. It's hard to dig out of a huge hole like that.'' - Gary Kloppenburg,
their coach said post game.
Both sides stayed equally competitive in the first five minutes of the ball game. But it was only after that when the Silver Stars started pulling away. First a 10-3 run saw them take a 19-11 lead and another 6-3 burst to close
out the stanza led them to a comfortable 25-14 advantage.
A 7-0 run in the second helped the Silver Stars further prolong their advantage as they continued to dominate the proceedings. As the first half came to a close, San Antonio put together another 8-2 run which pushed them to a 51-27
lead at the break.
Tulsa opened the second half with a 7-0 run in an attempt to start something. With the momentum on their side, they continued to press and slashed the deficit significantly and got within 7 at one point in the period. Robinson
and Hammon scored the final five points for the Silver Stars to keep the lead in double figures. However a 4-0 response from Tulsa saw it get down to 8 before heading into the final quarter.
That was about as close as Tulsa got in the game as San Antonio opened up the final frame with a 4-0 run and were never threatened again.
