Daniilidou/ Diatchenko oust Abduraimova/ Pekhova in quarterfinal – Tashkent Open 2011
The two teams playing the doubles quarterfinal of the Tashkent Open 2011 were; wildcard entrants Nigina Abduraimova along with Polina Pekhova and number two seeded Eleni Daniilidou with Vitalia Diatchenko. The teams battled it
out on hard courts of Olympic School Tennis Courts and after just 56 minutes the number two seeded duo stood victorious in straight sets of a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Meeting for the first time in their professional careers, the squads were unfamiliar with each other’s style and technique. The umpire flipped the coin and, subsequently opening the set was Abduraimova/ Pekhova, The two teams won
on their respective serves in the first two games but it became a bad start as Abduraimova/ Pekhova, were unable to hold their serve and endowed the first break point to Daniilidou/ Diatchenko, who capitalized on the break and then went on to holding their
serve in the fourth game. They again broke their wild card opponents in the fifth game and took a comfortable lead of 4-1.
Daniilidou/ Diatchenko were resolute to make it a faultless victory and were able to achieve that, as they did not setup a single break point opportunity for their opponents and the two continued their battering on Abduraimova/
Pekhova well into the fifth game going on to the sixth game by holding their serve. The gobsmacked Abduraimova/ Pekhova’s miserable defence stood no chance and in the seventh game Daniilidou/ Diatchenko broke Abduraimova and Pekhova for the third and last
time to square off a near perfect breadstick victory.
Opening the second was Daniilidou/ Diatchenko’s team and the teams won on their respective serves during the first two games. During the third game Abduraimova/ Pekhova were first to break after a short rally as Daniilidou/ Diatchenko’s
sent a backhand long. However, not wanting Abduraimova/ Pekhova to spoil their near flawless victory, the two broke back and eventually equalized the score in the following game.
The two teams broke each other back-to-back once more in the fifth and sixth game and Daniilidou/ Diatchenko started to ease into the set. They held their serve in the seventh game but during the eighth game Abduraimova/ Pekhova
double faulted after an intense rally and capitalized on the break point. During the ninth game they finished the set and the match by holding their serve.
The two seeded players had a geometric precision throughout the match, and did not commit a single double fault. They not only capitalized on their break points but had earned 72 percent of their second service points and were
able to secure a berth in the semi final were they will be facing Akgul Amanmuradova with Alexandra Panova.
