Danila Izotov conquers Men’s 200m freestyle semi-finals: Day two - Russian National Championships
Danila Izotov conquered the semi-finals of Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the Russian National Championships in Moscow on Tuesday, April 17.
The 20-year-old Izotov stayed marginally ahead of his following swimmer in the four-lap freestyle event. With his gruelling efforts and strong determination, he earned a lead of almost two strokes over his strongest competitor and made his way into the final
as strong contender for gold medal by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 47.96 seconds.
His dominating effort remained nearly four seconds slower from the Russian record of 1 minute and 43.90 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Artem Lobuzov, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower from him and entered the playoff as second best swimmer with a fabulous effort of 1 minute and 48.07 seconds.
Third best qualification spot of the race was secured by Alexander Sukhorukov, who remained just 0.02 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.09 seconds.
Sukhorukov was chased by Nikita Lobintsev, who proved his eligibility for the fourth best qualifying position and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 48.10 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 200m butterfly final, where Maria Novikova outsmarted her opponents and finished first by clocking a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 13.55 seconds.
Her gold-winning effort remained 0.24 seconds ahead of her subsequent rival, Irina Bespalova, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.79 seconds.
The third spot of the event was secured by Sofia Gutnik, who stayed 1.08 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.87 seconds.
Gutnik was trailed by Alisa Trukhanovich, who remained only a half second slower from her foregoing competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes 15.37 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena appreciated commendable struggles of all participants in their respective events. In addition, these podium finishers were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades at the medal ceremony after the completion of the session.
