Danilo Napolitano wins the fifth stage of the Tour de Wallonie, Giacomo Nizzolo secured an overall victory
Danilo Napolitano of Team Acqua & Sapone wins the final stage of the Tour De Wallonie after his splendid performance to secure the third stage of the race.
The 31-year-old crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 4 hours, 19 minutes and 8 seconds and restricted Gianni Meersman and Davide Appollonio for the second and the third positions.
Maxime Anciaux of Team Idemasport-Biowanze, Antoine Demoitie of Team Idemasport-Biowanze and Tom Dernies of Team Wallonie Bruxelles-Credit Agricole achieved the first, the second and third positions at the most combative cyclist awards.
Davide Appollonio, Luke Rowe, Giacomo Nizzolo, Adrien Petit and Klaas Lodewyck were the top five young riders on the day.
Giacomo Nizzolo of Team RadioShack-Nissan managed to bag an overall victory at the race with a close margin of 1 second over Gianni Meersman of Team Lotto Belisol.
Pim Ligthart of Team Vacansoleil-DCM, Mikhail Ignatyev of Team Katusha and Lloyd Mondory of Team AG2R La Mondiale grabbed the next three spots.
He was delighted after completing his trio of victories at the French event and thanked his team-mates for their continuous support throughout the five-day race.
"I'm very happy with the win, It shows that all the training has paid of,” said Nizzolo.
“When Daniele [Bennati] had to pull out of the race, I was allowed to sprint for myself and I'm happy I can pay back the trust that the team has given me”.
"It wasn't easy to defend the jersey with such a short lead”.
“We had three intermediate sprints with bonification seconds and it was to be expected that the fight for the overall win would be on until the finish line”.
