Danilo Petrucci tops damp free practice 1 session of the Italian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Danilo Petrucci of Came IodaRacing Project registered the fastest lap of the free practice 1 session of the Italian Grand Prix.
Only two factory riders, Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing and Nicky Hayden of Ducati went on the circuit to test conditions. Less than 10 riders chose to test their bikes during the FP1 due to early rain as there was not much to learn on the damp track.
Danilo Petrucci of Came IodaRacing Project completed his fastest lap in 1 minute and 43.178 seconds. He was followed by Michele Pirro of San Carlo Honda Gresini with a gap of 0.149 seconds. This was the first time that Petrucci appeared on the Italian Circuit
after the partnership of Came IodaRacing and Suter Racing, which was signed on September 13, 2012.
The second fastest lap was registered by an Italian San Carlo Honda Gresini rider, Michele Pirro with a gap of 0.149 seconds. He achieved the third fastest speed 261.5 km/h of the practice session.  He was followed by the English rider, James Ellison of
Paul Bird Motorsport who completed the damp Italian circuit in 1 minute and 45.730 seconds.
Spies followed David Salom of Avintia Blusens at the fifth position. He completed his lap in 1 minute and 48.298 seconds. He achieved the fastest speed of the session of 265.6 km/h.
Hayden recovered from his hand injury and tested his bike completing his fastest lap in 1 minute and 48.409 seconds at the 6th position. The 7th person was attained by Yonny Hernandez of Avintia Blusens who completed his fastest lap in 1 minute and 48.553
seconds.
The top riders did not went out due to the dampness in the circuit as there was nothing much to learn, as damp circuit can affect the road grip of the bike however they will be worried at missing the FP1 because most of the teams have introduced improvements
in their bike and FP1 could have proved to be a major session towards improvement.
Let’s see how the FP2 ends, as it is expected that most teams would not want to miss the entire first day of practice sessions of the Italian Grand Prix.
