Danish Kaneria lashes out at the PCB
Pakistan’s discarded spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the Caribbean.
According to details, the PCB snubbed the spinner after he failed to provide his statement which he gave to the Essex Police regarding the spot-fixing charges in a county match. The PCB had made it clear to the spinner that until he provides the board a
copy of the written statement that he gave the County Police, he will not be considered for selection in the national team.
Kaneria, who is Pakistan’s top spinner in the five-day version of the game by taking 261 wickets in 61 games said, “I’ve shown the letter by the Essex police that clears me of all charges and I don’t know what else to do. How can I provide the PCB with the
copy of my statement when I don’t have it myself.”
The lanky spinner was suspected of being involved in spot-fixing along with fellow teammate Mervyn Westfield and although Westfield is now facing criminal charges, after it was proved that the player was in fact involved in the heinous crime, Kaneria, nonetheless,
was cleared by the law enforcement agencies of any wrong doings.
On the other hand, PCB formulated an integrity committee to look into the assets of the Pakistan players to make sure there wasn’t any foul play in their earnings. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 board was forced to form a committee after three of its main players Salman Butt,
Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were convicted of spot-fixing during Pakistan’s tour of England. Where the two pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif deliberately bowled no-balls on the behest of a bookie named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed in the Lord’s Test.
The trio have been banned for a minimum of five years from international cricket where they will not be able to take part in any cricket event commissioned by the ICC or its affiliate cricket boards.
Other players such as wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik were also asked by the integrity committee to present their financial assets. Akmal was cleared to play after he managed to satisfy the committee while Malik failed to provide the details of
his overseas bank accounts which cost him his place in the World Cup squad.
However, Kaneria insists that since he has been cleared by the Essex Police there is absolutely no justification for the board to keep him out of the national team.
“I was cleared by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 Police, which is the important thing,” he said.
Lashing out at the PCB for leaking information regarding his investigation by the integrity committee, he clarified that he had never released any information, and anything that was leaked in the media was from the PCB.
