Danish Kaneria submits clearance certificate from Essex county to Pakistan Cricket Board
The out of favour Pakistan leg-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board in a bid to get his name cleared for selection in the national squad.
The 30-year-old right-handed leg spinner, confirmed on Saturday, that he has gotten a clearance letter from his former county, Essex and has sent it to the PCB as per the instructions of the board. He said that now it is up to the board to decide the next
step adding that he is eager to play for the national team.
"I have got the clearance letter from Essex and now it is up to the PCB to decide the next step. Personally, I am very keen to get clearance to be considered for national selection again," said Kaneria, the second only Hindu player in Pakistan cricket team.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had last week asked the leg-spinner to submit a clearance from the Essex County if he wants to get his name cleared for the selection by the integrity committee of the board.
When asked about the subject of the letter PCB was demanding from Kaneria, a leading board official had said that the letter should explicitly confirm that the Pakistan player was no longer required by the Essex police in the spot-fixing case levelled against
Kaneria and his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 teammate, Mervyn Westfield.
The Essex police had held a three-month long probe into the spot-fixing allegations levelled against the duo. It was alleged that both Kaneria and Westfield were involved in spot-fixing during a Pro-40 match between Essex and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in the 2009 county season.
The Pakistan Test spinner and his county teammate were arrested by the Essex police on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud following the spot-fixing allegations but the police later released Kaneria confirming that he will not face a criminal prosecution.
Westfield, however, was charged by the police and is now facing a criminal trial.
It has been reported that the letter sent by Kaneria will be forwarded to the PCB integrity committee and the committee would then decide when to call the bowler for a hearing.
