Dumped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 spinner Danish Kaneria will play for Essex on the Friends Provident t20 finals day, the county club have confirmed.
Kaneria was dropped from the Pakistan squad following their 354-run loss to England in the first of the teams’ current four Test series, a match where the experienced leg-spinner conceded 171 runs and took just one wicket.
“It is obviously great news that Danish will be available for finals day, we are all delighted to welcome him back. He is a top-class performer in Twenty20 cricket and is a match winner in his own right,” Essex Cricket First XI Head Coach Paul Grayson said in a statement.
“He knows us and we know him well and his record is outstanding across all formats of the game. The squad is in great shape and is looking strong ahead of Saturday. Ryan ten Doeschate looks fit and our only injury worry remains that of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Napier-c1505,” Grayson said.
Essex play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 in their semi-final match, and their opponents have some injury worries of their own heading into the weekend.
Hampshire will be without Michael Lumb for finals day, with the opener breaking his foot during a county game.
The injury will sideline the 30-year-old for the remainder of the season, which includes two Twenty20 Internationals between England and Pakistan during September.
And in a cruel twist of fate, it was England Twenty20 International opening partner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Kieswetter-c51708 who delivered the bone-breaking blow to Lumb, who was fielding at short-leg when he was struck by a shot hit by Kieswetter.
Lumb, who has so far played only seven Twenty20 Internationals during his career, and Kieswetter opened the batting for England during their ultimately victorious World Twenty20 campaign in the Caribbean.
Hampshire earlier this week said they wouldn’t play Kevin Pietersen in their team for Saturday’s finals, but now find themselves in need of some added batting firepower at the top of the order.
