Danish Kaneria’s petition against PCB to be heard today – Cricket News Update
The first full-bench hearing of discarded Pakistan leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314’s appeal, filed against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is scheduled to be heard at the Sindh High Court on Tuesday, July 26.
Danish Kaneria, the 30-year-old leg-spinner from Karachi, is continuously facing an axe from the national cricket team as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board’s integrity committee is not clearing his name for selection without giving any reason, despite the fact
that Essex police has cleared the leg-spinner from the spot-fixing allegation.
After sending several letters to the PCB and requesting the board a number of times to clear him to play for the national side, the leg-spinner finally filed an appeal with the Sindh High Court in which he has mentioned that the Pakistan Cricket Board had
not given any reason for not clearing him to be picked in the national team
The court subsequently summoned the board officials to explain Kaneria’s continuous snub from the national side. In Tuesday’s hearing, the legal team of Pakistan Cricket Board will submit its detailed reply to Kaneria’s petition. PCB’s legal avisor, Tafazzul
Rizvi will represent the board at the hearing.
Last year, Kaneria and his Essex teammate, Mervyn Westfield, was arrested by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 police after the duo was alleged of being involved in spot-fixing during a Pro-40 clash in the 2009 season.
The Essex police held a three-month long investigation into the scandal and in the end charged Westfield only and cleared the Pakistan leg-spinner as no charges were proven against him. But Pakistan Cricket Board has since then been reluctant in clearing
him for national selection as it has been reported that Essex police in its statement, filed with the court, had said that Kaneria was still a co-accused in the case and can be summoned anytime if felt necessary.
The board had earlier asked Kaneria to submit a 'clearance certificate' from the Essex police if he wants himself to be cleared for selection by PCB integrity committee. The leg-spinner submitted the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Essex county to the
PCB but is still awaiting an NOC from board’s integrity committee.
Later, the police charged only Westfield and no allegations were proven against Kaneria. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board stressed that though the leg-spinner had not been proven guilty, the police had also not completed the probe into the case, and the
trial was still going on.
Kaneria’s last played for the Pakistan cricket team against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010 summer and has not been selected for an international assignment since then.
