Danish campaigners prove their supremacy in Forza Denmark International 2012
The final day of Forza Denmark International certainly belonged to natives who proved their authority by capturing four out of five crowns in the event.
It was an all-Denmark finals and local shuttlers gave the nation a solid reason for grand celebration after holding four titles in Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Women’s Singles and Doubles categories. While only in the Men’s Singles event the hosting country
could not seize the crown.
The Mixed Doubles team Mads Pieler Kolding-Julie Houmann set the ball rolling by beating the compatriot duo Kim Astrup-Line Kjaersfeldt in title match.
Mads Pieler and Julie Houmann, who were also top seed couple of the event, served notice of their supremacy by wrapping the show in just two games.
The losing couple was no comparison to the champs and surrendered after a futile exercise of 30 minutes. The final results of 21-19 and 21-9 turned their plans of glory into dust.
Next chapter of this victory saga was even more impressive as the Women’s Doubles team Line Damkjaer Kruse-Marie Roepke sealed a straight-set win over British ladies Lauren Smith and Gabrielle White.
Though, it was not smooth sailing for the natives but they managed to end this hard fought battle in their favour. They placed remarkable totals of 21-18 and 21-19 to claim the title.
The Women’s Singles department was also dominated by Denmark as two of their shuttlers, Sandra Maria Jensen and Anna Thea Madsen, were contesting in the finale.
Both ladies put a great show of skills and earned great deal of respect and honour. Their fighting spirit was appreciated by spectators and critics.
They snapped each other’s heels throughout two exhausting sets but Sandra Maria Jensen stole the limelight by entering decisive figures 21-19 and 21-18 in score log.
Last but not the least, Men’s Doubles experts Christian John Skovgaard and Mads Pieler Kolding also landed on the podium.
Their coordination was superb against their compatriots Kasper Antonsen-Rasmus Bonde as the victorious duo completely outclassed them in all areas of game.
This final match just lasted for 28 minutes and the duo John Skovgaard-Pieler Kolding emerged as Champion with a convincing margin of 21-17 and 21-10.
This win wrapped a splendid day in which Danish shuttlers prevailed by clinching four crowns in the home event.
However, Denmark really missed a clean sweep as its Men’s Singles shuttler Rune Ulsing could not join the party and got pale in front of higher ranked opponent Henri Hurskainen of Sweden.
The Dane resisted for 33 minutes but it was not enough to keep the seasoned Swedish player away from a straight-set victory.
World Number 43 shuttler Henri utilised his brilliance and snatched Denmark International title with 21-14 and 21-11 score on the board.
