Danish team strong enough to beat Malaysia, says Jan O Jorgensen - Thomas Cup Update
Men’s Singles expert Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark is all set to take on Malaysia as he believes that his team has enough strength to corner the opponents in group stage of the Thomas Cup Finals 2012.
Both countries have been placed in Group C and they will face each other on Tuesday, May 22.
This group match is crucial for both contenders as they will be looking for a victory to receive a favourable draw in elimination round.
World Number 13 Jan O Jorgensen will be fielded as second Singles campaigner and he is scheduled to meet Daren Liew who is going through a bad patch these days.
Last time they were on the court as rivals six years ago when the Danish shuttler knelt down against the Malaysian but now Jorgensen is in high spirit as he stated that they carry enough spark to burn down their challengers.
He said, “I lost to Daren in a rubber game but that was a long time ago and a lot has changed for me. This time, we have a team strong enough to beat Malaysia.”
Denmark will have the services of veteran Peter Hoeg Gade, Jan O Jorgensen, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and Viktor Axelsen in Singles event while the Men’s Doubles department will see pairs like Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen and Jonas Rasmussen-Mads Conrad Petersen.
The Danish ace Peter Gade will be up against World Number one Lee Chong Wei and spirited Jorgensen thinks it will be a huge task for Peter to surpass badminton king but he hoped that they will make amends in other Singles ties.
He said, “The first singles may favour Malaysia but Peter (Gade Christiansen) will not make it easy for Chong Wei. We are looking at the second and third singles and also hope for the best from our doubles.”
Jorgensen also added that their Doubles teams stand fair chance to overcome Malaysian couples who are struggling to revive their old status in the arena.
This 2012 edition of Thomas Cup Finals will be his third appearance in prestigious team event as he made debut back in 2008 and then raised his country’s flag in 2010.
Now Jorgensen is confident to utilise his valuable experience to escort his country to glory.
