Danny Buderus of Leeds Rhinos wants to see his outfit win before he joins Newcastle Knights
While talking to reporters on Wednesday, October 5, Danny Buderus of Leeds Rhinos, whose Super League career is inching towards an end, with just one match remaining with Leeds, shared that all he wishes for is an exit in style with the Grand Final win on
Saturday against St. Helens.
Leeds clinched the qualifying semi-final by a 26- 24 win against the league toppers, Warrington Wolves, on Friday, September 30, whereas Saints bagged their place at Old Trafford by defeating Wigan Warriors, on Saturday, Oct 1.
Buderus will return to his former home town club, Newcastle Knights, for his last year in a playing role as Leeds will bid the player farewell after the Grand Final duel when Rhinos will take on the Saints , who are making their Grand Final appearance for
the sixth consecutive time of the year. Both teams have surfaced as the strongest amongst the Super League franchises after successfully beating all odds to reach the final berth.
While talking about his stay at Leeds, which is considered by him a life changing experience, Buderus added, “I've come close a couple of times, with missing out because of my leg and losing, but rugby league is what it is. It's been a really enjoyable three
years but I've had a few uncomfortable times and you learn about yourself. It would put me in good stead if I was to become a coach. The family would love to stay for another five years. We've spent a lot more time together as rugby league takes up a lot of
time in the NRL compared to here.”
The player reckons his stint at Rhinos, very enriching in terms of his personal growth as player. It is not only about his growth alone but that is also about the opportunity which enabled him to extend his stay in the world of rugby.
At Rhinos he was also able to spend some quality time with his family which otherwise was not even a distant possibility. Buderus made an announcement of his return to his former club down under, Knights, after his semi-final win and about that he said,
"the dream of finishing on my own patch at Newcastle" was too good to miss out on.
