Danny Care could be in the England squad – Rugby News Update
Danny Care, the England scrum-half is tipped to be selected by Stuart Lancaster, the England head coach, ahead of the South African tour that starts in June this year, and it sees England play a three-match test series, along with two other midweek games.
Care has had trouble with the authorities in the recent past and Lancaster had declared that the scrum-half cannot be trusted and will not be considered for England till the head coach regains his trust in the mercurial talent.
However, it seems that Lancaster is having a change of heart when it comes to Care and he will monitor his progress before the tour. While commenting on the inclusion of the Quins player, he said, "Danny Care is someone I have met recently and I am pleased
with what he is doing off the field in terms of working hard to force himself back into contention."
On his chances of being part of the team, Lancaster said, "I had a positive meeting with him and he is one I will consider for the tour."
The England head coach has a tough job ahead of the tour. He is without a number of key players due to injuries, such as Rob Webber, Courtney Lawes, Tom Woods, Joe Simpson, Charlie Sharples, and the latest to be added to the list is Tom Croft.
One player who will not be selected for the tour is Danny Cipriani, the fly-half who is joining the Sale Sharks ahead of the new season, and he was recently released by the Melbourne Rebels.
Speaking about the fly-half, Lancaster did not mince any words. He said, "Danny Cipriani is another one but I think the next step for him is to go to Sale, do the pre-season."
However, he did clarify that Cipriani has a future with England but next year. He said, "He is in a competitive position. Hopefully he will earn the right to get back in there next season."
There will be changes in the England team management as well. Mike Catt, the London Irish backs’ coach will be joining the coaching staff on an interim basis.
