Danny Care deserves to play again – Rugby News Update
Danny Care, the 25-year-old Harlequins and England scrum-half, is going to be starting the third and final test against South Africa at Port Elizabeth, this Saturday.
Care has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this year, and Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England, had branded the player as a liability, and a person that cannot be trusted. The head coach had also stated that Care will not play for England
till he can be trusted again.
It seems that Care has earned the backing of his coach, who is going to draft him in place of Ben Youngs, who is out injured and will miss the final game of the tour.
England currently trailed the Springboks 2- 0 in the series, and they have pride to play for in the last test, hoping to win. Care had missed the 2011 Rugby World Cup through injury and he last played for England in August 2011 against Wales at the Millennium
Stadium.
"Danny and I go back a long way, back to the academy," Lancaster said. "It is nice to finally coach him again in the starting team and I am looking forward to seeing him perform.”
"He had a broad grin on his face when I told him. He is a competitive player and he knows he is in a competitive position with Ben Youngs and Lee Dickson both playing well in the Six Nations. I know he was desperately disappointed not to make the first Test
or be on the bench…”
Care was optimistic and was looking at the missed chances as an opportunity to re-establish his focus. The scrum-half admitted that it was not easy to be out of the team, but it made him a better player, helped him focus on the tasks, and now he wants to
make the most of the opportunity presented to him.
Care has immense pace and invention, making him a dangerous player. He made his breakthrough to the national team in the 2008, when he made his debut against New Zealand at Auckland, on June 14, 2008. So far he has played 32 matches for England.
