Danny Care looking for a strong performance – Rugby News Update
Danny Care, the 25-year-old Harlequins and England scrum-half is determined to put a strong performance against the Leicester Tigers when the two teams meet to determine the Aviva Premiership champion.
He wants to lead the Quins to their first premiership title, and this comes at the back of Care being named in Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England’s squad for the tour of South Africa, where England plays a three-match test series, besides playing
two other mid-week games during the summer tour.
Care has been in the news for the wrong reasons since the turn of the year, having been arrested four times by the authorities in as many months, but is determined to put that behind him.
He said, "I think I have learned a lot and grown up a bit. My main focus has shifted back to what I do best, which is playing rugby. I am a professional rugby player and very fortunate to be in the position I am in. I think I took that for granted and took
my eye off the ball."
For the moment he is focused on winning the Premiership for his team and he says that it will be a dream come true for his young team.
"It would be a dream come true to be crowned the best team in England. We have had a few tough times in recent years. Hopefully we can do something special," he said.
Care made his professional rugby debut with Leeds and his inventiveness combined with blistering pace made him an England regular after he made his debut in 2008. The scrum-half made his debut against New Zealand at Auckland, on June 14, 2008. So far he
has played 32 matches for England, starting 15 of those games, while coming off the bench a further 17 times.
He missed the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which players say hit him hard and he lost track of where his career was heading. Two alcohol related incidents made Lancaster label him as a player who cannot be trusted.
However, Care has another opportunity to impress the England coach but before that he has the task of making the Quins win their first Premiership title.
