Danny Care needs to be careful after an imminent England recall – Rugby News Update
Danny Care, the twenty-five year old scrum-half who plays for the Harlequins in the Premiership is set for an England recall after being out of the team since August 2011. It is another chance for the player to show that he has learnt from his past mistakes
and can be ‘trusted’ by the England team management.
There is no doubting the talent of Danny Care but his behaviour has been questionable, leaving many of his admirers disappointed. Stuart Lancaster, the England head coach vowed in August 2011 that he will not pick Care for national duties till he can be
‘trusted’.
The former Leeds Carnegie player has represented England 32 times, making his debut against New Zealand at Auckland on June 14, 2008. After impressing for the Quins in 2008, he got his chance to play the Barbarians at Twickenham and his performances in that
match, earned him a test debut.
However, Danny has had trouble with the authorities. His alcohol related incidents are well documented, and on New Year’s Day he failed a drunk driving test, which later earned him the drop from Stuart Lancaster’s Six Nations team. The scrum-half accepted
the decision and agreed he made the wrong choice, he said, "I do accept that I made a very bad decision on the evening in question and need to take the punishment that the courts hand out."
In March this year, the Harlequins' player was charged for an alleged s*x assault on a woman. A spokesperson from Quin addressed the issue, and said, “He denies the allegations made against him. Harlequins are fully aware of all the facts and will continue
to support Danny as he addresses this situation."
In the last three months Danny Care has been arrested four times, been handed a 16-month driving ban, and been fined. On New Year’s Eve before his drunk driving charge, he tweeted, "2012 is hopefully going to be a massive year...Earn respect. Earn the shirt.
Set the example."
He has been handed a new chance by Stuart Lancaster and he needs to grab this chance by both hands, not only on the field but off the pitch as well.
