Danny Care surprised with Man of the Match award – Rugby News Update

Danny Care, the 25-year-old Harlequins and England scrum-half was excited at having the chance to play for England once again, in the third and final test against South Africa.
England lost the three-match test series 2 – 0 against the Springboks and avoided a clean sweep by drawing the last test at Port Elizabeth. However, the visitors had success in their midweek games, winning both them.
It gave Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England, a chance to look at all the players, and Care, who was making his return to England colours after a year, was excited at being given the chance to play for his country once again.
Care has pace and invention making him one of the most dangerous operators in rugby but it is his off-field antics that have kept him out of England.
The head coach of England branded Care as a person that cannot be trusted, and would only pick him once he feels that the scrum-half has matured. On the back of guiding the Quins to their first ever Premiership title, Care was included in the 42-man squad
for South Africa.
Reflecting on the game, Care was just happy that he played and surprised that he was awarded the Man of the Match title.
"It has been nearly a year since I last started for England and it was awesome to be out there, starting and playing a full game," Care said. "I don't know where the man of the match came from but I'll take it. It was great to be back out there. I'm grateful
to Stuart for giving me the chance to play again and show what I can do. It is just a shame we didn't get the win we all wanted. I thought our defence was outstanding; the forwards defended their hearts out.”
Care will be looking to become a regular for England following his return. So far he has played 33 matches for England, making his debut against New Zealand in 2008. He has started 16 games, and has come on as a substitute 17 times.
