Danny Cipriani claims fly-half spot in Melbourne Rebels squad during Super Rugby 2012 – Rugby News
Danny Cipriani, who recently participated in Barbarians clash against Wallabies on Saturday, November 26, has stated that he will be wearing the number 10 jersey for the Melbourne Rebels during Super Rugby championship 2012. However, Melbourne Rebels’ management
has not cleared whether he will be featured in the team or not. Rebels’ coach Damien Hill told the reporters on November 29 that it was great to hear about Danny Cipriani’s excitement towards the derby but his future is not decided yet.
Danny Cipriani started off his Super Rugby career with Australian conference Melbourne Rebels in 2011. His on field performance was not an issue for the management but the off field activities left a few questions unanswered.
Danny, after being dropped from England’s national side with just seven test caps after disciplinary issues, moved to Australia for a new career but failed to overcome his habits of violating the teams’ code of conduct. Melbourne Rebels under the supervision
of Rod McQueen failed making a good impression in initial few games and decided to stop the unsavoury off field activities of players to gain better results in remaining matches.
However, Cipriani turned a deaf ear to the instructions and had some serious misadventures off the pitch. He once failed retuning in time to his team’s hotel and afterwards was accused of theft. He was captured by CCTV camera while stealing a vodka bottle
from a casino which put him in further hot water.
Informing the journalists about Cipriani’s future with Rebels, Damien Hill Said that, “It's great to hear Danny so enthusiastic but with all respect to him, it's not how we work here. We select players based on performance, behaviours, the talent we have
available, there's going to be some selection challenges ahead.
While talking about other player the coach said that, “Definitely. He's shown himself now at 10, 12 on the wing and at full-back so he's a talented player. James' work in the contact was excellent, he's ability to direct the play, his offloads, just his
general go-forward was excellent.”
Danny Cipriani’s position with the Rebels could be in danger after the derby signed James O’Connor for the upcoming season of Super Rugby.
