Danny Cipriani excited about his return to England – Rugby News Update
The 24-year-old English fly-half, Danny Cipriani, was released by his club, the Melbourne Rebels and he is set to join the Sale Sharks ahead of the new season. Cipriani had made the decision to move back to the Premiership by the end of August, but his contract
was terminated by mutual consent.
His overriding decision to move back to England was to be considered for the national team, and add more caps to the seven he has already earned. However, the current head coach of England, Stuart Lancaster is not going to consider him for the upcoming tour
of South Africa in June. On his imminent arrival back to the shores, Lancaster said, "Danny Cipriani is another one but I think the next step for him is to go to Sale, do the pre-season."
Cipriani is looking forward to the new season with the Sharks. He wants to get back into the news for the right reason, something he was unable to do for the Rebels. Speaking about the season ahead, he said, "I just want to make the news for what I do on
the rugby field," while speaking with the Manchester Evening News. He further added, "I guess, when it comes down to it, I've got quite a lot to prove to myself as I know where I can be and what I can do, and I want to achieve that with Sale.”
Cipriani emerged on the rugby circuit in the 2006-07 season, and during his debut match for the London Wasps, the fly-half scored a try. It was expected that he will get an England call-up soon, especially after he won the Heineken Cup with the Wasps but
he was overlooked for the 2007 World Cup.
His debut did come in 2008 against Wales at Twickenham but unfortunately he was not able to cement a place in the national squad and played the last of his international test four years against New Zealand at Twickenham.
He does feel that he has improved as a player and a person, which will hold him in good stead for the future. He said, "I think I will be coming back as a better player and a better person for the experience of playing with Melbourne.”
