Danny Cipriani fined for the nightclub event – Super Rugby update
Danny Cipriani, the recent major signing of Melbourne Rebels, as been fined as much as a match fee for a infringement of discipline. Cipriani made an official apology after he was accused of taking a vodka bottle without paying, from a nightclub.
He has been reported to be ejected from the club by the bouncers of the club the very same day when Rebels lost 43-0 to New South Wales Waratahs in the opening match of Super 15.
Chief Executive Officer of Rebels, Ross Oakley said, “While the event was not deemed to be a major violation, the club believes that Danny's actions were in breach of the expected behaviors of our players.”
Daniel Jerome Cipriani is a 23-year-old English rugby union player, who plays as centre, fullback and a fly half too. Cipriani started his rugby career with London Wasps in 2004 and stayed with the club till 2010. He earned 33 caps for Wasps and scored 214
points alone. He signed Melbourne Rebels in 2010 for Super Rugby season 2011, which is currently in progress. Since then he won two caps and scored 20 points for the Rebels. Cipriani made his international debut in 2008 for England against Scotland in a Six
Nations fixture, where he played as a fullback, a position he has been most successful so far. He has seven international caps under his belt and 49 points for the elite squad.
The recent incident didn’t come out to be in his good books, but one can’t deny his skills. The same reason why Rebels still have him on their squad for next week’s fixture.
Cipriani said, “I am looking forward to put this incident behind me, focus on my rugby and throw in positive rugby to the team's culture.”
He added, “As my behavior was not in line with our undertaking, if anything else happens along these lines again, I have agreed with the players that I will stand down for a suitable period of time.”
Even though, he was being considered as the bad boy, he changed everyone’s views by slotting in 20 points alone for the Rebels against Brumbies on Friday.
On the other hand, Andrew Szoeke, the night club manager said that he haven’t received any kind of apology from the club or the player.
Szoeke disappointedly said, “Cipriani has not presented a confession and I possibly don't want one now, but we would have established one if it had just been a dim-witted practical joke or something.”
