Danny Cipriani likely to leave the Melbourne Rebels – Super Rugby News
The English fly-half, Danny Cipriani, who signed a two-year contract with Melbourne Rebels this year, is likely to exit from the Australian Super Rugby derby soon. Cipriani, who was left out of the South African tour for two matches, has been dropped by
the Rebels management. Reliable sources have said that Cipriani has contacted Premiership club Bath to discuss his future their on May 20th.
Bath Chief Executive, Nick Blofeld, confirmed today that Cipriani has approached the club but Bath is yet to make a decision on his transfer. Blofeld said that the Premiership club does not have a policy of signing players at the eleventh hour, irrespective
of their code of conduct. He further said, "Danny is a very talented player but we don't know what has happened in Australia yet and we didn't want to go off-strategy and sign somebody at the last minute. But he is someone we have looked at before and somebody
we could look at again."
Cipriani’s rugby career is dogged by many ups and downs because of his own follies. He has breached the discipline of various teams he has played for several times. He joined the newly established Melbourne Rebels this year and has rubbed the management
the wrong way three times in his short tenure. He was accused of stealing a vodka bottle from a local casino in Melbourne right after their first Super Rugby match. The casino management did not call the police but informed the team officials about the incident.
Later on, Cipriani remained out of his team’s hotel until late at night and could not participate in training sessions the next morning and was spared with a warning. He turned a deaf ear to the caution and breached the discipline again when he did not report
back to his team hotel on schedule. The Rebels took stern action against his repeated off-field problems and dropped him from South African tour.
On the other hand Rebels have contradicted the reports and said Cipriani wasn’t going elsewhere. Rebels’ chief executive Ross Oakley told the media that, "I've spoken to his manager who told me there's no truth in the fact that he's wanting to go to Bath."
Oakley said that he expects Danny to honour his two-year contract with the Melbourne Rebels.
