Danny Cipriani motivated to retain his place in English rugby team – Rugby News
Danny Cipriani, who is currently playing for the Melbourne Rebels, has expressed his desire to represent his national side England in Rugby World Cup 2015. Cipriani has participated in seven tests for England but was ruled out from English squad on disciplinary
issues by the outgoing manager, Martin Johnson. Talking to media on November 21, the 24-year-old fly half said that he has set a long term goal of fixing a spot in England’s national side until RWC 2015. However, he outscored the possibilities of any favours
from the new management after the departure of Johnson.
Cipriani has played for England’s U-16 and U-19 and was likely to be picked up for global showpiece of 2007 but was ignored by selectors due to unknown reasons. However, he was called up in the squad for Six Nations Championship 2008. He was expected to
be given a starting role against Scotland during same tournament but was axed from the team for his behaviour.
Cipriani made his debut against Ireland and remained successful in making a good start. He earned seven test caps for England during 2008 and played his last international match with the side during same year in November as well.
He moved to Australia in 2011 after putting pen to paper with Melbourne Rebels and was entangled in a couple of controversies there too. He was first accused of stealing a vodka bottle from a casino and later on for breaching the code of conduct of the derby.
However, he has tried to be a good boy during coming days in order to win back the confidence of RFU.
Talking to the media about his comeback in English side, he said that, “For the last 12 months, watching England play while not being involved felt as though it was passing me by. Some people are going to say pick me, while others will say don't because
of x, y and z. I have to look at x, y and z and front up in those areas. I just want to make sure I don't give anyone the excuse not to pick me.”
Cipriani will be seen in action against Australia on November 26, in Twickenham, while playing for Barbarians.
