Danny Cipriani’s future uncertain with the Melbourne Rebels - Super Rugby News
Danny Cipriani’s future with the Melbourne Rebels is still in doldrums as the ongoing row between player and club stands still after two weeks. The assistant coach of the Rebels, Damien Hill, told the media on May 31 that negotiations were in progress to
seek out a solution for the issue.
The row started after Cipriani was dropped from the Rebels team from their tour to South Africa for breaching code of conduct of his club.
Cipriani, who also plays for the national side of England, started his Super Rugby career with the Melbourne Rebels this year. The management of the Rebels was warned of the uneven behaviour of the star player at the time of his signing. He has participated
in seven international games for England and has been labeled as an irresponsible player.
Melbourne Rebels, the newly established Australian Super Rugby, hired the young English player early this year hoping for improvements in his attitude. But the fly-half has failed to bring himself into the good books of team management. The player has not
done horribly on the pitch and in fact has scored 59 points for his side in six outgoings. All the management is worried about are his off field activities.
Danny Cipriani has hardly spent three months with the Rebels but he has already earned the wrath of management on three occasions. The incidents include stealing of a vodka bottle from a casino and breaching the rules of his team while staying away from
his team hotel until late at night twice.
The assistant coach of the Rebels, Damien Hill, told the media about the current talks between the club and Cipriani and said, "The administration is in talks with Danny's management at the moment regarding his availability for this week. It's not ideal,
but that's just the way it is at the moment. There are issues there that need to be resolved and that's being handled by the administration."
However, the coach hoped that Melbourne Rebels will retain the services of Cipriani for their next match of Super Rugby against the Stormers on June 3.
