Danny Cook to ride Madison in King George Chase
The wait is nearly over for the much awaited and much flaunted William Hill King George VI Chase, which is scheduled to take place at the Kempton racecourse. The event was previously postponed because of extreme weather conditions, and thus the rescheduled
race will go ahead this weekend.
It has been reported that jockey Danny Cook has been engaged for the racehorse - and one of the top contenders for the King George meeting - Madison Du Berlais.
The aforementioned racehorse trains under the care of trainer David Pipe. The trainer was in a dilemma since the formerly appointed jockey, Tom Scudamore suffered a kidney injury at the Sandown racecourse last weekend, due to which he will not be able to
participate in the meeting on Saturday. The ten-year-old racehorse finished the last edition of this event in second place.
Although there were a couple of other jockeys who were willing to be a part of the mega event, trainer Pipe chose Cook to take the responsibility of his trainee. The jockey has to his credit list victories in 12 races so far this racing season. Cook has
already raced in significant meetings like the Peter Marsh Chase, which took place at Haydock in January last year with the colt Our Vic. Moreover, he also partnered with Great Endeavour to claim the Byrne Group Plate, which was a feature event of the Cheltenham
Festival during the last racing season.
On the other hand, the jockey also has some bad fame to his name. Cook made the headlines last May, when he was banned for 22 days after he was found guilty of taking the wrong course for the third consecutive time, at Newton Abbot in April of the same year.
Talking to reporters about the appointment of Cook, Pipe’s assistant said, “We are pleased to announce that Danny Cook is due to ride Madison Du Berlais in the rescheduled King George VI Chase at Kempton this Saturday.”
The assistant further went on to say, “It will be Danny’s first ride in the race. Although he is no stranger to the big occasion having ridden a Cheltenham Festival winner for us last season aboard Great Endeavour in the Byrne Group Plate Handicap Chase.”
Meanwhile, the racehorse Forpadydeplasterer will be ridden by Robert Thronton.
