Danny Duffy agrees to one year contract with Kansas City Royals – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, pitcher Danny Duffy has agreed to a one year $487,750 deal with Kansas City Royals. The contract, which was finalised yesterday, will provide the starter with an opportunity to prove his metal in Major League Baseball.
According to sources, both parties were involved in negotiations for the last few weeks. They finally reached an agreement on Tuesday. If Duffy can live up to the expectations, he will also have the chance to earn performance based incentives and bonuses.
Duffy struggled to make the most of available opportunities in his rookie season last year. On his first MLB appearance, he gave up two runs in four innings in 5-4 loss to Texas Rangers. His 4-8 win-loss record suggests that he still has a lot to improve
in his game play. However, the biggest challenge for him in the upcoming season will be to reduce his career 5.64 ERA.
The 23 year old is still very new to the MLB world. Although he looked completely out of sorts in his rookie season, Duffy will be hoping to turn things around with consistent performances in 2012. The upcoming season will be of great importance for the
starter. If he can deliver the goods on regular basis, he will secure a permanent place in Royals’ pitching rotation.
The guy has already started to train with the Royal’s coaching staff. He will be looking to practice hard to improve his throwing technique. With persistent hard work, he can also develop a decent slider and fast ball. The Royals, on the other hand, will
do everything they can to look after their young prospect.
Last season, the club was unable to achieve it desired goals. Manager Ned Yost and General Manager Dayton Moore are also very busy making the right pitching and hitting combination to help the Royals compete with other strong teams in their division.
Duffy will be looking to turn the tables with solid performances in Spring Training. If he managed to impress his bosses, he will have a great chance to upgrade his contract at the end of the season.
