Danny Espinosa to undergo MRI examination as left shoulder gives him trouble - MLB News
Second baseman Danny Espinosa will go through MRI examination to check the status of his left shoulder which has been troubling him in the last many games. Espinosa’s production and energy on the field have declined since the pain triggered in his shoulder.
He will be absent in the upcoming series. Unless the MRI report reveals something positive, he is likely to miss a reasonable number of games in the season.
Given the fact that post-season is around the corner, his injury will be disturbing for the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson. Another batter namely Michael Morse is suffering pain in left wrist and is not yet confirmed as fully fit for playing the upcoming
matches.
In light of this, the Nationals will be concerned about the performance of their offence. They were swept by the Braves in the recently concluded series. With injuries surfacing, returning to the top-notch form immediately will not be easy.
Such developments while the post-season is impending do not bode well for Washington. The time when they need to be perfect in every department of the play has reached. Prolonged injuries to the likes of Morse and Espinosa can be damaging to their chances
for earning the glory this year.
Nationals’ third baseman Ryan Zimmerman hopes that Espinosa will not take a long time to return. He has been part and parcel of successes achieved by Washington and has played a significant role in them. Apart from his offensive contributions, he has been
incredible defensively in the field.
“Any time one of your everyday guys that’s been a big part of this team, hopefully it’ll just be something little,” Ryan Zimmerman said. “Hopefully it’ll be nothing and he’ll be ready to go.”
Johnson acknowledges the penchant of Espinosa for playing every game and standing out. He wants to see him in the line-up at the earliest.
“He never wants to come out of the game,” Johnson said. “I wasn’t going to hit left-handed, and he said it’s even bothering him right-handed. So I’m pretty concerned about him.”
Espinosa will be looking forward to a positive revelation in the MRI examination. Let’s see whether he can comeback soon.
