Danny Espinosa’s double RBIs help Washington Nationals defeat Chicago White Sox 2-1 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ second baseman, Danny Espinosa was outstanding with the bat as he hit two RBIs and posted one run with 1-for-3 in the Nationals’ 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on June 26.
It was the last game of a three-match series and the Nationals snatched it 2-1 after this valuable win.
The batters failed to show their abilities in the first two innings of the game and got out to various fields. Jayson Werth was grounded out towards the pitcher while Roger Bernadina popped out to third base at the top of the first inning.
The White Sox batters were also unable to score a run as Omar Vizquel flied out to left-field and Adam Dunn was struck-out looking, at the bottom of the first. During the second inning, the White Sox batters missed some runs when A.J. Pierzynski singled
to centre-field and Mark Teahen was flown out to left-field.
In the third inning, Paul Konerko drove a single-run shot towards right-field and Vizquel scored a single to give the White Sox an initial 1-0 lead. Carlos Quentin moved to third base at the end of third inning.
The pitchers controlled the shots of the batters from the fourth to the sixth inning and the score-board was unyielding. The Nationals’ starter Livan Hernandez threw just over six innings with an ERA of 3.81 and permitted only one run on eight hits including
one earned run. He was able to strike-out nine batters and gave away just two walks on his 123 pitches.
During the seventh inning, the Nationals scored two runs to go-ahead 2-1 when Espinosa hit a solo homer (422 feet) towards right-field and Michael Morse contributed the last run of the game. In the eighth and ninth inning, the score-board remained empty.
Espinosa commented on the Nationals’ interim manager, John McLaren and said, “He wasn't giving me a lot to hit. He made one mistake and I was able to take advantage. It's awesome to send (McLaren) off with a win.”
The White Sox starter, Philip Humber allowed two runs on three hits in his six inning pitches. He permitted three walks on 109 pitches and had four strike-outs.
