Scotland defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Fox has admitted that he was delighted upon receiving an international call up from his national manger, Craig Levein, and viewed it as a ‘compliment’ to his performances for Southampton.
The 26-year old had long given up hope on representing his country at the international stage. So far, he has managed to make just a single appearance for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041.
His inclusion in Levein’s contingent for the Tartan Army’s upcoming friendly fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 means that is the first time in three years that the left back has received an international call up.
Talking to the media during an interview, Fox admitted that his selection in the national team came as a huge shock for him, as he had long given up the hope of featuring in the international arena. However, he felt that his selection came as an acknowledgement
for his impressive performances for the Saints, and was happy on being finally considered.
He told the reporters in an interview, “I'd put it (international football) to the back of my mind having not been called up for so long, but it's nice. It's a compliment to me and a compliment to the staff, the manager and the players that I'm playing with
because my form has reflected how we've done as a team.”
Fox arrived at Southampton in August last year from Burnley, after penning a four-year deal with the club. Since then, he has gone on to make 44 appearances for the Saints, and helped them climb their way back into the top division by finishing as the runners
up in the Championship last season.
Even though the player viewed his club commitments as being on the top of his priority list, he nevertheless mentioned that he was honoured on getting a chance of representing his country, and was looking to make the most out of the opportunity.
He added, “Southampton is my bread-and-butter so that comes before anything else, but this is an honour and is something I want to take with both hands.”
