Danny Garcia: I just fight who they put in front of me – Boxing News
Following his super-knockout victory over Briton fighter Amir Khan, Danny Garcia is now being considered among the most promising stars of our age. After he knocked out the Bolton proud, analysts and fans were hoping to see Garcia against fiercer fighters
to match up his calibre but that did not happen. Instead, fans got to know that the unbeaten American is once again going head to head against Mexican legend Erik Morales.
To most, Garcia’s decision of facing Morales was not a wise one, as Garcia will be the only one losing in either case. If he defeats Morales in the same manner he did before, the reputation he earned after knocking out Khan will be washed away. On the other
hand, if he is beaten by Morales, then all hopes for the American will fade off. The only way Garcia can make the most out of this fight is by knocking Morales in the earlier rounds of the show, something similar to what he did to Khan.
“I’m fighting a legend,” said Garcia while he was preparing for the fight at his gym. “I just fight who they put in front of me. My job is to train, and to go in there and give my best performance. But he gave me a shot at the title when nobody knew me.
So if anybody deserves a rematch, he deserves a rematch. He didn’t have anything to gain if he beat me. So it’s only right that I give him a rematch.”
When asked about how he is going to deal with Morales this time, Garcia iterated, “I know he’s going to come hard, but I’m ready for him. I’d be happy if I stop him, but I’m ready for 12 rounds.”
Garcia defeated Erik Morales earlier this year to win the WBC light welterweight title. However, Garcia’s performance was deemed by many as under par, considering his record. He then went head to head against Briton WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan
to prove his mark, and he did it well. Garcia knocked out Khan in the fourth round of the fight, winning Khan’s WBA title and the respect of a champion.
Now, he is hoping to knockout Morales as well to set his pace towards being a world-class champion.
