Danny Garcia, the now WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine light welterweight titlist, is excited to get bigger matches after defeating Briton fighter Amir Khan past Saturday, July 14, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
“I needed a great fighter in front of me to show how good a fighter I am,” said Garcia who knocked out Amir Khan several times in the fight.
The fight was halted by the referee during the fourth round, when the referee felt Khan could not take the thrashing anymore.
“Now everyone knows. I'm a killer. I will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime,” added Garcia is proud to become the unified titlist.
When asked to compare his shots on Khan with those he delivered to Erik Morales last year, Garcia said, “I hit him with the same shots I hit Erik Morales with when I won the title last time and that shows you how great a fighter Morales is.”
“People said he was old but he took those shots all night long and Khan couldn't take them.”
Garcia further said, “We knew Khan was going to come out fast because he thought I had no power but I waited and stepped up to use the power and speed I have, and it worked. I was going to fight until the death, just like he did. Now I want to continue to
fight the best.”
Garcia is now 24 unbeaten while Khan stands with three defeats in his portfolio. Garcia entered the ring as 7-1 underdog but defeated Khan in the fourth round, shocking analysts, fellow fighters and fans around the world.
Paulie Malignaggi, who was commentating by the ringside, was appalled at the sight of Khan being knocked out. The shot that took Khan down was devastating but it happened due to Khan’s blunder of letting his guard down.
For now, Garcia moves onto a better level while Khan goes back to where he was in 2008. He needs a big win now to get back to the track, while Garcia will be defending the unified titles with better fighters of the division.
