Danny Garcia charged up to defend title against Amir Khan – Boxing News
The current WBC light welterweight titlist Danny Garcia is charged up to defend his title against British-Pakistani, and now the reinstated WBA light welterweight titlist, Amir Khan.
Garcia will step in the ring against Khan on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. This will be Garcia’s first ever title defence, after he grabbed the belt from Erik Morales last year.
“It's a dream come true,” said Garcia regarding his title defence against the top fighter in the division Amir Khan.
“I'm enjoying every minute, from the press and media to meeting the fans and I'm ready to give them a great fight. After winning the title you have to stay on top of your game because it's hard to win but even harder to keep it. I'm ready to show the world
who is best,” he added.
Things between both the camps are already on a high. Garcia’s father Angel Garcia left no stone unturned to get under Khan’s skin. He has shot racism and ethnic comments towards Khan, in pursuit of distracting Khan. However, the WBA light welterweight titlist
has kept his calm, ensuring fans that he is not moved by Garcia senior’s comments.
Similarly, Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach has ascertained that the Bolton fighter is focusing on his training, instead of falling for Angel Garcia’s ridiculous traps. Now that Khan has the WBA light welterweight title, the fight has become an even more enthralling
match. Moreover, Ring Magazine’s title is on the line too, making this fight a triple-title match.
Khan will enter the ring as a champion and not a challenger anymore. He will defend his WBA title, while Garcia will defend his WBC light welterweight title. Winner of the match will unify all three belts.
The lead up to this match has been probably the most exciting one of all time. Angel Garcia has targeted Khan’s god and his Pakistani descent, while the Briton fighter has revealed news of his longest training camp to date. Fans are already taken up by the
fact that Khan will be taking on an unbeaten American fighter for the first time in his career. If all goes well, Khan will once again be the man to unite titles.
