Danny Garcia knocks out Amir Khan in the fourth round – Boxing News
After being verbally thrashed by Angel Garcia, Amir Khan suffered an even more brutal beating in the ring by Danny Garcia. The title unification fight took place on July 14, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Khan, who entered the ring to defend his WBA light welterweight title, found it hard to dominate the unbeaten American. Garcia was defending his WBC light welterweight title, and he made a mark to ensure Khan suffers a humiliating defeat. In addition, the
Ring Magazine title was on the line too. Therefore, Garcia defeated Khan to unify three titles; the WBA light welterweight title, the WBC light welterweight title and the Ring Magazine’s title.
Khan came in the ring with a strategy but was surprised when it backfired. The Bolton proud tried to be speedy right from the start, to avoid Garcia from picking up the pace. On the other hand, Garcia kept his cool in the first two rounds trying to understand
what Khan was offering. Once he had the trail of Khan, Garcia shot back. Just one solid punch to the neck and Khan hit the canvas.
The Briton fighter did make a comeback in the fourth round but was unable to set his momentum. By this time around, Garcia knew Khan could not take his power and so he went on thrashing Khan. Surprisingly, the only thing Khan was found doing was ‘running
away’.
After dominating the first two rounds, Khan was in trouble in the fourth round. Finally, the referee called off the fight, considering Khan was not in the shape to take it anymore.
“The plan was to counterpunch, use the jab, but Mr Garcia got under his skin, and his heart got in the way. Amir says he will be back. Hopefully Garcia will come to England and we will fight him over there,” said Khan’s Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach,
who was surprised on Khan’s defeat.
For now, Khan’s career seems to be in jeopardy as this was his second consecutive defeat. Khan’s dreams of fighting Floyd Mayweather after defeating Danny Garcia are no longer alive or considerable.
