Danny Garcia on the verge of giving Khan a rematch – Boxing News
Although the ‘Garcias’ were previously not in the mood to grant former champion Amir Khan a rematch, it seems like they have changed their plans following the Briton’s tenth round TKO victory over unbeaten American fighter Carlos Molina.
Danny Garcia and his father Angel Garcia were present in the arena when Khan battered Molina like a punching bag. Garcia was impressed with Khan’s speed and praised it as much as he praised it following his win over the Brit.
“If the money's right then we'll definitely fight whenever and wherever,” said Danny, who is hoping for Khan to bring a better fight to the ring this time. “But it's up to what Golden Boy wants because I can say 'Yeah let's do it' but really I have no control
over it.”
When asked as to when will the rematch happen, Garcia asserted, “I'm not the businessman in this team. I'm the athlete, the entertainer. I let my team do the business and I prepare for the fight.”
However, Garcia clearly declined the notion of going to the United Kingdom to fight Khan. “Man, I don't know if I'd come back alive - they'd be waiting for me at the airport or they'll be waiting for my dad! I love you guys but I'm okay, thanks!”
When asked about Khan’s speed against Molina, Garcia came up saying that he did expect the Briton to start the fight at a high pace, since he knows Khan is a speedy fighter. He also spoke about his fight with the Briton, saying he was shocked to find him
so fast.
For now, Garcia believes Khan will be a bit more aware of his strong punches this time. Garcia does not see anything wrong with Khan’s defence but he does believe that the Briton is reckless and that is the foremost reason why he gets caught.
Garcia is scheduled to face Zab Judah next year while Khan is being eyed for a showdown in April, 2013. In other words, both fighters might not be able to face each other in the first half of the year.
