Danny Garcia vows Ortiz is going to fight Mayweather in a different way – Boxing news
Danny Garcia, who is the trainer of the current World Boxing Council’s World Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz, has vowed his fighter will fight the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion
Floyd Mayweather in a completely different way.
Garcia told the media he watched Mayweather’s fights and came to know that most of the fighters did not come up with anything new. Therefore, the trainer believes the undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who holds a record of winning all of his 41 professional
fights, with 25 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, will be surprised this weekend.
“We're going to do our best to fight him in a different way,” Garcia said. “I saw many of his fights, and most of the guys fought him the same way. Not the same way, but they showed him respect. We're not going to do that.”
The Vicious, Ortiz, who is a winner of 29 of his 33 professional fights (2 Draws), with 22 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is 10 years younger than Mayweather. Therefore, Garcia thinks his fighter will be superior to Mayweather in terms of speed
and power.
Roger Mayweather, who is Floyd Mayweather’s uncle and trainer, however disagrees with Garcia, as he reckons speed and power are of no use without the proper skill set.
Roger responded to Garcia by mentioning the 55-year-old former world-class American boxer, Howard Davis Junior. He said Davis was one of the most agile boxers ever yet he could not become a world champion.
“He doesn't have more skills than Floyd, and that's what wins fights,” Roger Mayweather said. “Skill wins fights, not how quick somebody is. One of the quickest fighters in the world never won a world championship, that was Howard Davis Jr. What's (quickness)
got anything to do with it? If you don't know (nothing), it don't make no difference.”
Victor Ortiz will mix up with Floyd Mayweather this weekend on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Let’s see if Ortiz can really break Mayweather’s unbeaten record, as nobody has been able to do that in the past 15 years.
