Danny Garcia wants to destroy Erik Morales this time – Boxing News
American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia wants to knockout Mexican legend Erik Morales in the rematch being held on October 20 at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Garcia, who defeated Morales last year to become the WBC light welterweight titlist, believes
he showed the Mexican fighter a bit too much respect.
Both fighters were present at an open workout at Harrowgate Boxing Club in Philadelphia yesterday. Garcia spoke about his plans for the fight, saying that he wants to destroy the Mexican fighter for good.
“I think people are taking me more seriously now. It took some time for everyone to realize how serious I am. Then my last few fights showed them that I think and fight like a champion, which is what I am now,” said Garcia.
“Erik Morales is a legend and in the first fight, I probably gave him more respect than I should have. This time I am the champion and he is the challenger. Last time I stood in front of him too long and let him think. I can’t let him think. I want to go
in there and destroy him,” said Garcia.
Now just as a challenger, in their last encounter, Garcia was a new face fighting a legendary fighter. This time, Garcia is coming off a fourth round knockout win over British light welterweight fighter Amir Khan. Garcia is now more confident and knows how
to go by.
Garcia’s performance against Morales last year was heavily criticised by fans and analysts. Some even believed that the American fighter was not up to the mark and he only won because Morales was not fit to contest.
Morales had gone through a gallbladder surgery three months prior to the show, which was being considered the main reason as to why he was unable to perform well against Garcia. This time, Morales has no excuses and it is time for him to prove his mettle.
Even Garcia wants Morales to put his performance forth so that fans have no complains after the fight.
For now, both fighters are hungry to win the showdown but Garcia remains the favourite.
