Danny Granger out indefinitely with knee issues as Indiana Pacers attempt to keep themselves competitive – NBA News
The Indiana Pacers were one of the most underrated teams of the last season and made their presence felt when they dominated much of the Eastern Conference to finish with the third seed. The Pacers were one of those teams that
seemed to rely on contributions from a number of players rather than have a superstar on the roster, and had a remarkable defence led by their center Roy Hibbert. But one of the main reasons why the Pacers were so successful last season was the fact that while
other teams in the NBA struggled to keep their players healthy in a lockout shortened season, the Pacers went through the regular season without any injury scare.
However, injury troubles seem to have arrived rather early this time around for the Pacers, as the team recently tweeted that their star forward Danny Granger has still not recovered from a knee injury he initially suffered in
the Eastern Conference Semi Finals last season against the Miami Heat.
“Forward @dgranger33 has continued soreness in his left knee and will be out indefinitely. Granger will get a second opinion and once that is received an update will be provided,” tweeted the team on Tuesday.
Granger initially suffered the injury during the playoffs last season, and spent much of the offseason recovering from the injury. He even underwent the platelet rich plasma therapy to help his knee heal. He was treated with caution
in the preseason, as many teams do with their star players, but was still unable to fully recover and be ready for the start of the season.
Granger’s loss will be a big blow to the Pacers team as he was their main scorer and offence carrier. Granger averaged 18.7 points per game last season and was the leading man in the front court, making plays happen and taking
care of the perimeter shooting. In his absence, David West, Paul George and George Hill will have to step up their game and contribute more if they want the team to succeed. The Pacers are not a very deep team when it comes to bench strength and Granger was
one of their most important players, particularly in the front court. His indefinite unavailability will be a big issue for the Pacers, who will now need to somehow cover his loss.
