Danny Granger says players union likely to reject league’s ‘final’ offer next week: NBA News
The way things are going in the labour talks between the National Basketball Players Association and franchise owners, it seems quite imminent that the basketball fans will have to wait for a long time before they get to see any basketball action.
The NBA has made the union one last offer on the Collective Bargaining setup and with that, they have issued a ' take it or leave it' policy. The proposal which David Stern, the NBA Commissioner, has forwarded is a replica of the one which the players refused to accept a few days ago and the players will, in all probabilities, reject it.
At least Danny Granger, the Inidana Pacers forward thinks so.
In a telephonic interview from Los Angeles he said,
“From what I've seen and heard, the counter offer is the same they presented us a week ago, making a few minor changes that in the big scheme of things really did nothing to the deal.”
The new offer from the owners includes a 50-50 sharing of the Basketball Revenue Income (BRI) and if the players union accepts their offer it would allow them to have a regular-season of 72 games that would start from December 15, 2011.
With no major flexibility shown by the owners Granger expects the deal to be vetoed.
“I would expect that proposal to be rejected after all the players learn more about the deal. The next step I don't know.”
The owners have said that if the players had rejected their final offer, they will replace it with a much harder proposal.
Stern also told the media persons on Thursday in New York that, “We have made our revised proposal and we’re not planning to make another on. The NBA awaits the response of the union.”
The players association will meet in New York on Monday for a scheduled meeting in order to discuss the new offer made to them by the league, as told by Granger. Although there is very slight chance that the players would accept his proposal from the league, but only the time will tell what will happen.
Training camp and the first month of the 2011-12 regular-season had already been cancelled because of this long drawn out labour talk and if the players reject this new offer from league which is on the cards, another month of basketball season can go to waste.
