Danny Granger wants Indiana Pacers to bring in David West, Carl Landry or Nene – NBA Update
In every NBA season, there are ups and downs in the performance of different teams. Some solid rosters are defeated and at times some average teams outrun the elites and take the fans as well as critics by surprise. Last season,
in the Western Conference, we saw a resurgent Memphis Grizzlies squad taking down the likes of San Antonio Spurs in the first round of playoffs.
Another team that made splashes when it gave the regular season best Chicago Bulls a run for their money in the first round of playoffs was Indiana Pacers.
The team saw Frank Vogel taking over the reins in the middle of last season after Jim O’Brien was let go. Pacers were at that time struggling to make it to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but Vogel brought out the best
of the young roster and took them to the playoffs. Pacers are a young and energetic team with a lot of room for improvement, but the fact cannot be denied that there is no star on the roster. Danny Granger, the Pacers small forward recently highlighted that
fact and urged the management to go for a star power forward in the free agency, whenever it takes place.
“I think with what’s on the market at power forward, we have the opportunity to go get one of them. David West, Nene and Carl Landry are available. There are some good power forwards out there. I think we need to be deeper at that
position.”
In these few lines Granger revealed not only the flaws in the Indiana Pacers but also the strategy that should be adopted to overcome them.
Tyler Hansbrough and Josh McRoberts are good at the power forward position but still need grooming. This is where the veterans Nene Hilario, David West and Carl Landry come into the equation.
Nene would be a positive addition in the team but he has been very clear that he would prefer to join a championship contender. West is a good power forward, who is known for his outstanding scoring capabilities. He is very effective
as a rebounder and shows consistency on the defensive end as well. Besides that he is a good ball handler for his size and has the ability to convert with either hand.
However, West is still from his major knee injury and he also wants to join a championship capable team in the free agency and that too with a huge contract.
Carl Landry at present seems to be the best fit for the Indiana Pacers. His stint at the Houston Rockets during the 2009-2010 season showed that he is good enough to anchor an offensive game for stretches.
