Danny Green makes comeback and takes on Danny Santiago in a 12-round non-title bout – Boxing News
Danny Green, the former International Boxing Organization cruiserweight and WBA World light heavyweight champion, will make a comeback after the time lapse of seven months against Danny Santiago, the former NBA Continental Americas Light Heavyweight champion,
in a 12-round bout which will be held on July 25, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view which is still under construction. The fight card is being organised and promoted by Danny Green and Justin Manolikos of Green Machine Promotions and the ring for the showdown will be setup at Challenge Stadium situated
in Mt Claremont, Western Australia, Australia.
Green recently announced the engagement in a press conference and shared his views on various topics such as his loss to Anthony Mundine and the possible sequel to it, his upcoming bout and the reason why he has decided to cut weight.
Also known as ‘The Green Machine’, Green has been in a total 36 bouts and proudly resides at World Boxing Organisation’s 14th rank. In addition, he is currently dubbed as the number one cruiserweight in Australia.
The Aussie Danny will make a comeback to the ring after a pretty long time. Green left the ring after collecting two consecutive losses from Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Antonio Tarver.
Green lost his IBO cruiserweight gold to Antonio and in the next bout with Krzysztof missed the chance to grab the WBO cruiserweight title. During the interview, while finalising and officially announcing the engagement, Green stated, “This fight with Santiago
is here to prove that I’m prepared to come down and give the fans of Australia what they want to see.”
While sharing his thoughts about Santiago, Green commented, “Nothing soft comes out of Bronx, and he’s a very tough guy. This isn’t just a fight to have a fight, I’m not going anywhere, and I’m looking at campaigning at a lower weight and see how I can handle
the weight.”
When asked as to what are his views on avenging the Anthony-loss, Danny remarked, “It’s on Anthony Mundine’s call. So I’m not sure whether he’s just calling my name out to get publicity, or he’s dinkum about getting the fight on, this is my way of saying
I’m dinkum.”
Green’s Wednesday night opponent, Santiago, 39, has been in a total 37 bouts and boasts 31 wins with 19 coming via knockout. Also known as ‘The Bronx Bomber’, Santiago is coming from a technical knockout loss to Beibut Shumenov.
As far as the odds are concerned, Green has an upper hand as he does not only possess a better knockout jab but also has the hometown advantage in his gear.
