Danny Green offered a three year contract with the San Antonio Spurs – NBA Update
San Antonio Spurs have secured the services of Danny Green for the next three years, it has been confirmed. The player has revealed the details of the new deal which will see him make a total of $12 million and was very excited
after receiving his first ever long term contract in NBA.
“I'm very excited," Green said, "I'm glad to be back, getting another shot at the title . . . It makes me a little more comfortable with a guaranteed contract for three years."
Green put up a solid performance by averaging 9.1 points in the 38 games he started last season and a long contract for him was pretty much on the cards. Still in the early years of his career, he has already been waived off twice.
The first time was with the Cleveland Cavaliers and then the Spurs waived him back in 2010 before he returned back to San Antonio last season.
He was an instrumental piece of the Spurs team which recorded league best 50 wins in the short spanned season of 66 games and entered the playoffs as the hot favourites to land the title. They were unbeaten in the first two rounds
and went on to take a 2-0 lead against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, before eventually losing the next four for a surprise and abrupt exit.
They however still are a formidable unit and have made moves to retain their bench, one which was by far the best in the league last season. The Spurs have already re-signed Boris Diaw and after Green’s signing only DeJuan Blair
remains as a free agent.
The prospect of a long term contract has not just left Green excited but also his family;
"I was very excited for him," Danny Green Sr (Green's father) said "If a player doesn't get signed to team that he's with, he has to relocate everything."
At the moment with his future secured for the next few years, Green will be spending time conducting several camps in the North Babylon area. The first of three camps is already under way and the remaining two are planned at the
end of July and the start of August.
