Danny Lee finds himself in a tough situation
The Kiwi number one golfer, Danny Lee failed to make it inside the top 125 on the Fed Ex Cup and on money tour list. As a result of that, he had to play on the Web.com tour.
After carding an even par 72 in the final round at the WNB Golf Classic, Danny blew the chance he had to qualify for PGA Tour.
Lee only had to shoot just two strokes better in order to successfully defend his title but he eventually lost by one stroke.
Lee is now left with two options to qualify for the PGA Tour before making a last ditch effort at the Q-school. He either needs a top 125 finish on PGA Tour or a top 25 finish on the Web.com Tour.
New Zealand’s top golfer missed the cut for the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs, so he had been playing on the Web.com Tour.
He is still US$78,000 off the top-25 and the bad news is that time is running out for the 22-year old.
He needs to win at the Chiquita Classic in North Carolina next week. If he fails to win, then he must earn enough money to push him inside the top 60. That way, he can play at the season ending tour Championship.
The more likely chance to get the PGA tour card for the next season is by playing at the four event finale. In that, he would need to finish close to the leaderboard in at least two of the events for him to secure his tour card for the 2013 season.
It would be disaster for the Kiwi if he fails to make it through the four event finale as well. Then it will mean that he will have to go to the Q-school to earn his card. The problem with that is that the dates of the Q-school clash with the New Zealand
Open.
It is difficult for Lee to miss the Open, as it would attract a large number of sponsors but then he must keep in mind his physical condition.
He is prone to injuries and playing 17 tournaments in 19 weeks is a tough ask for any player.
