Danny Lee keeps his hope of playing on the PGA tour alive
New Zealand’s top most golfer, Danny Lee, shot seven-under 65 in the first round at the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying event in California. Bear Creek Golf Club is not an easy course and, with the 75-man field eyeing the PGA Tour card, it is a great
score.
Danny did not have the best of seasons as a rookie. He finished at the 167th spot on the money tour list. However, he started off brilliantly on second stage of Q-school.
It is because of his low finish on the money tour list that he has to undergo only two stages of the Qualifying School.
Lee needs to finish among the top 19 spots at this event in order to progress further and, with the way things are standing, he has a very good chance of moving ahead.
Lee shot six birdies, an eagle and a bogey to card a seven-under at the Bear Creek Golf Club. He has made a perfect start and the ball is in his court now.
If he fails to succeed, it would be his fault. The 22-year-old Kiwi golfer, started off brilliantly, as he carded five-under 31 on the first nine.
He then eagled the par-four thirteenth to go eight-under. However, a bogey on the 16th let him down a little, but he is definitely in a good position.
Danny, at the moment, leads the field by just a stroke. All he needs is a top 19 finish on the second stage. Looking at the form and position he is in, he should make it to the next round comfortably.
Danny played 26 times this year on the PGA Tour but failed to make his impression. He had only three top-25 finishes.
The best one was at the Frys.com Open, where he carded a disappointing 71 in the fourth round to finish at T16.
The kiwi golfer had a chance at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic to make an inroad on the money tour list but he failed to make the cut.
Currently, Danny has the start he needed, and most probably he will make it to the tour next season.
