Danny Lee tied for the 16th position after the second round at Puerto Rico Open
After the second round of the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com, the New Zealander Danny Lee stood tied for the 16th position.
The tournament is in progress at the Trump International Golf Club, Rio Grande in Puerto Rico. The 21-year-old professional started the tournament by making amazing scores. He recorded a 2-under par and 70 strokes in the first round.
This was his best performance of the current year, as he scored four birdies and was bogey-free till the 13th hole. Later on the 14th, he carded a double bogey and finished the round.
He also amazed the spectators in the second round and again scored a 2-under 70. He improved his ranking from the 21st to the 16th till the end of second round on Friday.
However, he was unable to save bogeys and was also unable to be at or under par twice.
Lee is looking forward to winning a PGA staged tournament, as in the past, he only won two professional events.
He achieved the glory twice, first at the European Tour and then at the Nationwide Tour in 2009 and 2011, respectively.
The former US Amateur champion currently ranks 165th, according to Official World Golf Rankings.
He was unable to qualify for the World Golf Championship – Cadillac Championship, at Doral Miami, which is also in progress in Florida.
Hence, he is in the field of the Puerto Rico Open. He carded nine birdies up till now. He is seven strokes behind the leader Matt Jones and has ample chances to finish the tournament in the top-10 on the leaderboard.
Australian Jones scored an 11-under 133 and has a three-stroke lead over American George McNeill.
They competed well in the first round. They delivered their best in the second round on Friday as well.
This is the eighth tournament of the PGA being played by Lee in the current year. He started his current season in January and devastatingly missed the cut at four.
He also withdrew from the Mayakoba Golf Classic, due to some stomach disorder issues, in the first round two weeks ago.
Now, Lee will play the third round on Saturday and it is expected that the young New Zealander will compete well against the leaders.
