Danny McGuire cancels trip to Las Vegas for Steve McNamara - Rugby League
While talking to reporters on Friday, October 14, Danny McGuire, confirmed that he will join in with England’s squad to take on Australia, New Zealand and Wales in the National Rugby League (NRL) Gillette Four Nations, which is scheduled to start by the
end of this month.
Leeds Rhinos' McGuire was also part of the Super League Grand Final encounter against St. Helens, which labeled Rhinos the champions of the Super League, despite finishing fifth at the end of the regular season.
In order to console himself after the prop was left out of Steve McNamara’s 24-man squad he booked himself a trip to Las Vegas.
However, just 24 hours later he was called in as a replacement to Saints’ Jonny Lomax, who had sustained an untimely injury, which forced him out of the final selection of the English squad.
Lomax had to withdraw out of the McNamara’s final pick only to create room for McGuire, who happily cancelled his Las Vegas trip.
Leeds’ half back has not represented the English squad in Four Nations since 2009 and was hopeful for his place within the squad this year. When others were called in, he was devastated. In order to make himself feel better he booked himself a trip to Las
Vegas, only to cancel it now
While speaking about his very recent inclusion, the player added, “I suppose the last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster and it has sort of mirrored the season we have had at the Rhinos. The boys were having a trip to Las Vegas and, when I found
out I wasn't in the England squad, I paid for a flight to go over with them. But I cancelled it and now I'm here training with the lads. Although its hurts a little bit to lose a little bit of cash, it's only a small sacrifice. You don't get many opportunities
to play for your country. It's the biggest honour any player can get.”
The prop also said that he is thrilled about his last minute inclusion and is looking forward to what lies ahead for him.
