Philadelphia Union’s Danny Mwanga scheduled to visit his hometown Portland this week – MLS News
Portland Timbers host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Mwanga-c10216 is no stranger to Rose City as he returns to his home
town. The player fled Democratic Republic of Congo amidst the second http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Congo-c2875 War and was reunited with his family in Portland, Oregon.
Mwanga will be hoping for the attendance of his family members, former coaches and his old friends in the stands. The player does not fear ‘The Timbers Army’ as most of the home fans know him well. In fact the player might actually be cheered should he score
his first goal of the year at his hometown.
“There aren’t going to be nerves because I’m used to playing in front of a lot of people already,” the soft-spoken Mwanga told the press. “It’s just going to be more excitement playing in front of my family and friends for the first time in my hometown.”
His mother, who came to the US first and then brought all the family members including Mwanga, will not be joining the little friends and family club as she lives with his sister in Dallas.
However, former coach Monty Hawkins will be at the site, watching the player whom he taught through his teenage years. “He helped me a lot and is a big part of my family,” Mwanga said.
The player would be hoping the trip to his proclaimed hometown brings him luck and form. Last year’s Rookie of the Year Award nominee remains barren of goals this year.
The Union are second in the Eastern Conference for third week running and an away win might push them ahead of New York Red Bulls at the top of the table.
The player, who explicitly admits that he has not yet gelled with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Ruiz in the forward position, also admits that this does not happen overnight. Both the Congolese and the Guatemalan are working hard to forge a partnership and believe that their pairing
will soon start delivering the right results.
